English language and mathematics are two fields which enjoy high level of patronage in all educational strata. From the time immemorial, people see English language and Mathematics as two different fields which are predominantly parallel and that one cannot complement the other. It is on this basis that the research was carried out to investigate the relationship between the English language and Mathematics. At the outset, general definitions of language, English language and the language of mathematics were given while trying to make some comparison between the world of natural language and mathematical symbols. Consequently, the study revealed that mathematics is a language and language is essential in the study of mathematics, thus the language of mathematics enjoys the features of English language. The significance of their relationship to the improvement of teaching and learning was critically examined. Due to usefulness of English language as a language of instruction in Nigerian educational settings, the research hereby recommended some ways of improving English language proficiency among the Mathematics learners.
