Synthesis and Characterization of Schiff Bases, Manganese (II) and Oxovanadium (IV) Chelates

Oxovanadium (IV) and Manganese (II) of Schiff bases derived from ethanolamine/benzoylacetone and 2-hydroxynaphthaldehyde/ethanolamine have been synthesized. These compounds were characterized by percentage metal analysis, conductivity, solubility infrared and electronic spectra measurements. The conductance measurements in nitromethane showed that none is an electrolyte and the solubility test revealed that virtually all the complexes were polymeric. The infrared and electronic spectroscopies support a probable 4-coordinate tetrahedral geometry for [Mn(L4)2]. H2O complex and 5-coordinate square-pyramidal geometry for [VO(L3)2] complex.
