THE ADOPTION OF ICT IN MATHEMATICS: ITS IMPACT IN THE IMPROVEMENT OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION

Abstract
The terminology that is often used in twenty-first century is technology. The adoption of ICT (Information and Communication Technology) in mathematics will be a giant stride towards the advancement of science and technology education. Towards this, there is need for teachers and students of mathematics to continuously follow the trend and adopt effective use of ICT in mathematics education. It has been discovered that certain barriers war against proper integration of ICT in mathematics education. Some of these impediments are insufficient teacher training opportunities for ICT projects, inadequate technical skills for the operation of some of the gadgets, unavailability of the school curriculum content online for students’ accessibility and lack of knowledge about ways to integrate ICT to enhance the curriculum. To overcome some of these barriers, this paper proposes ways to integrate ICT into the curriculum and the adoption of a user friendly e-portal for teaching mathematics.
