SYNTHESIS AND ANTIMICROBIAL ACTIVITY OF CHLOROSALICYLALDIMINE SCHIFF BASES

Abstract

Schiff bases [N-(phenyl)salicylaldimine], [N-(2-methoxyphenyl)salicylaldimine], [N-(4-chlorophenyl)salicylaldimine, [N-(5-chloro-2-methylphenyl)salicylaldimine were synthesized from 5-chlorosalicylaldehyde and aniline derivative. The synthesized compounds were characterized by elemental analysis, IR, UV, 1HNMR. The antibacterial studies revealed that the compounds exhibit broad spectrum antibacterial activity against Escheriochia coli, Klebsiella pneumonia, proteus mirabilis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Salmonella typhimurium.
